Joi Calendar

Last updated: July 16, 2026.

Overview

A focused visual calendar for saving memories, remembering things, and sharing daily moments without clutter.

The app stores calendar content on the device by default. A parent, caregiver, or other trusted user can optionally sign in with Google to use Google Drive backup, restore, device transfer, and existing-backup recovery.

Joi Calendar does not operate its own cloud storage service for private calendar content. If Google Drive backup is enabled, app-created backup files are stored in the signed-in user's Google Drive.

If the app is installed through a Luotsi campaign or affiliate link, it may send minimal install attribution metadata to The Great North Software Company's Luotsi dashboard. This does not include calendar entries, media, Google account information, payment details, or children's private content.

Intended Users

Joi Calendar is designed for children, families, and adults who benefit from visual structure, often with help from a parent, guardian, caregiver, teacher, or support person.

The app is designed for supervised family/support use. Google sign-in, Google Drive backup and restore, protected settings, import/export, access-mode changes, and purchase actions should be handled by a parent, caregiver, or other responsible user.

Data The App Can Process

Joi Calendar can process data that the user or trusted support person chooses to put into the app:

  • Calendar and journal entries: date, optional time, title, and text or description.
  • Media attached to entries: photos, videos, audio recordings, and drawings or edited pictures saved as image files.
  • App settings: language, text-to-speech language, layout and appearance preferences, day colors, theme, clock and calendar display preferences, access mode, and access PIN state.
  • Google sign-in state used for optional Google Drive features.
  • Backup metadata needed to restore, merge, or synchronize the user's own backup.
  • Google Play Billing purchase state for the Pro unlock.
  • Affiliate attribution metadata if the app was installed through a Luotsi campaign link, such as app package, app version, anonymous install ID, and campaign/referrer parameters from Google Play.
  • Local diagnostic logs and device/app metadata used only for troubleshooting when the user chooses to send a diagnostics ZIP.

The app does not intentionally collect advertising identifiers, precise location, phone numbers, contacts, health records, or payment card details.

How Data Is Used

Joi Calendar uses app data to:

  • Create, edit, show, and organize calendar entries.
  • Save photos, videos, drawings, imported pictures, and audio clips chosen by the user.
  • Read entry text aloud using device text-to-speech.
  • Remember layout, color, language, text-to-speech, and access-mode preferences.
  • Enforce Light/Pro entry limits.
  • Back up, restore, transfer, merge, or sync data through Google Drive when enabled.
  • Check whether premium features are unlocked through Google Play Billing.
  • Create an optional diagnostics ZIP for support if the user requests it.
  • Measure whether a Luotsi campaign or affiliate link led to an app install.

The app does not use user content for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.

Where Data Is Stored

On The Device

Calendar entries and settings are stored in app-private local storage on the device. Attached media files are stored in the app's local files area.

Android system backup or device transfer may also include the local database, settings, and media files depending on the user's device and Google account settings. Google sign-in preferences are excluded from the app's Android backup rules.

In Google Drive

If a trusted user signs in with Google and enables Google Drive backup, restore, device transfer, or existing-backup recovery, Joi Calendar stores or reads backup data in Google Drive.

Backup data can include calendar entries, attached photos, videos, audio recordings, drawings, app settings included in the backup format, and backup metadata needed for restore, merge, or synchronization.

Current backups are stored in the signed-in user's Google Drive in app-created backup files and folders. For one-time recovery of an older folder backup, Android's system folder picker grants the app read access only to the folder the user selects; the app reads that folder to recover the backup and creates a new app-owned backup.

Manual Export And Import

The user can export a backup through Android's system sharing interface or import a backup through Android's document picker. The user chooses where an exported backup is saved or shared and which backup file is opened for import.

In Google Play

If premium is purchased, Google Play Billing processes the payment and provides purchase/entitlement status to the app. Joi Calendar does not process payment card details directly.

Affiliate Attribution

If the app was installed through a Luotsi campaign link, the app may send a one-time install attribution event to the Luotsi dashboard. The event can include the app package, app version, anonymous install ID, and campaign/referrer parameters from Google Play. It does not include calendar entries, media, Google account information, payment details, or children's private content.

Diagnostics

Joi Calendar keeps limited local diagnostic logs to help troubleshoot crashes, backup, restore, sync, and media problems. These logs are stored on the device. They are not sent automatically. If the user chooses to contact support and attach a diagnostics ZIP, the ZIP can include app version, Android version, device model, Drive backup status, last backup/restore timestamps, diagnostic log messages, and crash stack traces. The diagnostics ZIP is designed to exclude calendar text, media files, Google tokens, and account identifiers.

Permissions

Joi Calendar may request:

  • Camera: used only when the user chooses to capture a photo or video in the app.
  • Microphone: used only when the user chooses to record audio or video with sound.
  • Internet: used for Google sign-in, Google Drive backup and restore, Google Play Billing, and one-time Luotsi install attribution when the app was installed through a Luotsi campaign link.
  • Network state: used to check whether Drive backup or sync can run.
  • Legacy external storage write access on older Android versions only, limited by maxSdkVersion=28.
  • Android text-to-speech: used to speak entry text aloud.

The app does not use camera or microphone access in the background.

Sharing

Joi Calendar does not sell personal data. The developer does not operate a backend that receives or stores users' private calendar content.

Data may be shared with service providers only as needed for user-facing features:

  • Google sign-in and Google Drive storage, restore, and synchronization of the user's own backup.
  • Google Play Billing for the Pro unlock purchase state.
  • The developer-operated Luotsi dashboard for one-time affiliate install attribution when a Luotsi campaign link caused the install.
  • Support email only if the user chooses to send a diagnostics ZIP or support email.

If the user exports or shares a backup through Android's system interface, anyone with access to the resulting file may be able to read its contents.

Light And Pro

The Light version includes the same core calendar tools with a limited number of calendar entries. The current Light limit is 50 calendar entries.

The Pro unlock is a one-time in-app purchase that removes the entry limit for ongoing use. Purchase processing and purchase state are handled through Google Play Billing.

Children And Supported Users

Because Joi Calendar may be used by children and people with support needs, adults should avoid entering unnecessary sensitive information into entry text, titles, photos, videos, drawings, or audio recordings.

Parents, guardians, caregivers, teachers, or support persons are responsible for deciding what content is appropriate to store in the app and whether Google Drive backup or manual export is appropriate for the user.

The app does not include ads and does not include social features for chatting with strangers.

Retention And Control

Because private calendar content is stored on the user's device or in the user's own Google Drive, The Great North Software Company normally cannot delete that content for the user.

Local data can be controlled by editing or deleting entries in the app, clearing app data, or uninstalling the app.

Google Drive backup data can be controlled by:

  • Signing out in the app.
  • Deleting backup files or folders from Google Drive.
  • Deleting exported backup files wherever the user saved or shared them.

Google Play purchase records are managed through Google Play.

Data deletion requests

To request deletion of developer-held data, email info@thegreatnorth.fi with the app name and a short description of the request.

We can delete support emails, attachments, and Luotsi affiliate attribution metadata held in our systems. Luotsi attribution metadata can include the app package, app version, anonymous install ID, campaign/referrer parameters, and related campaign event records.

We cannot delete private app content stored only on the user's device, in the user's Google Drive, in Android backup, or in Google Play purchase records. Those records must be managed through the app, device settings, Google Drive, Google account, or Google Play.
